Often referred to as the 'Valley of Flowers of Himachal Pradesh' or the 'Yosemite of India', the Miyar Valley Trek is an extraordinary expedition in the remote Lahaul region. Stretching nearly 75 km from Udaipur to the Kang La Pass on the Zanskar border, this enchanting valley boasts endless carpets of alpine blossoms, emerald green meadows, meandering glacial streams, and monumental granite cliffs.

The trek features gentle, wide valley terrain framed by unclimbed vertical rock spires and colossal glaciated summits such as Mt. Menthosa (6,443 m). The journey culminates near the snout of the massive 28-km long Miyar Glacier and seven pristine high-altitude glacial tarns (Chhudong Lakes), providing an unmatched wilderness experience.

Drive from Manali to Shukto / Khanjar Village via Atal Tunnel

Morning drive from Manali through the engineering marvel of Atal Tunnel into the arid grandeur of Lahaul (135 km, 5-6 hrs).
Drive through Keylong, Tandi confluence, and Udaipur (visit the ancient wooden Mrikula Devi Temple).
Arrive at the roadhead hamlet of Shukto/Khanjar (9,900 ft). Overnight in homestay / tents.

Trek from Shukto to Doksa / Thanpattan Campsite

Cross the wooden suspension bridge over the Miyar stream and begin a gradual, breathtaking trek.
Traverse wide riverbeds lined with willow thickets, grazing horses, and Buddhist mani stones.
Arrive at Thanpattan meadow campsite (11,300 ft, 11 km, 5 hrs) with views of hanging glaciers.

Thanpattan to Zardung Campsite

Trek from Zardung back to Shukto / Khanjar

Arrive back in Khanjar village, celebrate completion with the team, and stay in comfortable local homestays.

Drive from Shukto to Manali Departure

Post breakfast, drive back along the Miyar and Chenab rivers, passing Keylong and crossing the Atal Tunnel.
Reach Manali by late afternoon (around 4:00 PM) for evening Volvo departures to Delhi / Chandigarh.

Know before you go
The valley is famous for its sheer, vertical granite walls and granite monoliths that shoot straight up from flat grassy meadows, bearing an uncanny resemblance to California's Yosemite Valley.
Unlike many Himalayan treks with continuous steep ascents, the Miyar Valley is remarkably flat and gentle, making the walking days very enjoyable with gradual elevation gain.
July and August are best for experiencing the vibrant wildflowers and green meadows in full bloom, while September offers crisp clear autumn skies and golden meadows.
